E.T. Paull, Sheet Music Master
This must be the summer rerun season for again, we are revisiting a previous subject but with a much expanded offering over our first edition. We first featured works by ET Paull way back in June of 1998, over three years ago
As with our recent revisit to Ragtime music, since our original issue we have acquired several of Paull's fantastic Lithograph cover sheet music works since then and want to present them to you. Paull was perhaps more of a marketer than a musician. Although he wrote some fantastic works that captured the public's attention, it is his fabulous covers for which he is best known today. As you browse through this month's feature, you will see precisely what we mean, both musically and visually. His covers command some of the highest prices in the collector's market for sheet music in today's market and many are highly sought after. Almost all of his covers have incredibly colorful and detailed images that were mostly printed using five color lithography. Unfortunately, the artist(s) responsible for these wonderful covers have been unidentified and as a result, the Lithographer, A. Hoen & Co. of Baltimore, has been credited with them.
